What is World of Warcraft Addons?

World of Warcraft Addons are the same as Mods. Most people use the terms interchangeably. The changes may be purely cosmetic (change the colour of the bars from the standard grey to florescent pink), may make it so you can change where or how things are displayed on the screen, may provide additional information or functionality, etc.

What is the best WoW Add-ons?

When you are asking about "the best WOW Add-ons", while people can point you to the mod they prefer, it is just that, a personal preference.

How do I install AddOns?

1. Exit WoW. Its important.
2. Download the mod you want to install.
3. Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'. Do this one file at time!
4 Verify your WoW Installation Path - I know it sounds wierd, but there have been many people who actually have TWO installations of WoW on their computer.
5 Move to the Addon folder.

* Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:Program FilesWorld of Warcraft)
* Go into the 'Interface' folder.
* Go into the 'Addons' folder.

6. Start World of Warcraft.
7. Make sure Addons are installed.

Note: Some addons will conflict with other addons, and sometimes the conflict will make your WoW slow or unstable. If you need to "rescue", you can just delete the whole addons folder. Note that doing so MAY lose your saved data/configs.

How Can I Get These Add-ons?

You can get these add-ons a few different ways. Create them yourself with a free tool that Blizzard lets you download right off of their site, or download any number of pre-made add-ons that are made from other players. Remember, though, if you want to create your own, you'll need at least a decent background in Lua, XML, or both.

Does Blizzard Allow This?

For the most part. You can't, however, give yourself an unfair advantage in the game. Things like teleportation is a major no-no, along with getting access to information that no one else has, doing more damage, having more armor - you get my drift.

If you do any of these silly things, it violates the Exploitation and Client/Server Manipulation Policy, and if you do that, you're account could get suspended or closed entirely, and you could lose all of your characters, your items, your levels - everything.

How Can I Find Pre-Made Addons?

Some older, hardcore players might refer to addons as being something that isn't needed, or almost cheating, but the use of addons is accepted and very commonplace. You can get add-ons to tell you when to repair your equipment, extra action bars, how many hit points your foe has remaining, and much, much more.

Overall, World of Warcraft addons make the game not only simpler to play and understand, but a lot more fun to deal with. They're great for not only the hardcore players who just want more information, and the newbies who actually need the information to stay alive.
