World of Warcraft Professions are an important part of the development in world of warcraft character. Once you recah level 60 (or 70 with the expansion), professions provide the prime opportunity for the accumulation of gold. While leveling is the first concern of a new character, the choice of profession must not be ignored.
There are two types of World of Warcraft Professions - Primary and Secondary. All professions also fall into three categories: gathering, production, and service.
How do I get World of Warcraft Professions? You find an NPC that can teach you their Profession, or you other people where you can find certain trainers, or discover them on your own.
You need to have a minimum character level to learn a new level of professions. Apprentice requires level 5, Journeyman level 10, Expert level 20 and Artisan requires level 35. Master requires level 50.
Primary Professions are Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Herbalism, Jewelcrafting, Leather Working, Mining, Tailoring and Skinning. You can choose only 2 Primary Professions.

Creation of potions, elixirs and transmutes.

Secondary Professions are Cooking, First Aid and Fishing. You can choose all three secondary professions.

Creation of food items. Higher level cooked food provides bonuses to skills and abilities, in addition to health recovery.
First Aid
Creation of bandages.
Fishing
Gathering skill useful for alchemy and cooking. In addition, fishing may on occasion produce items of low, common or uncommon quality.
The effective way of using your primary professions to their fullest potential is to pair a gathering and crafting profession that compliment each other. In this way the primary profession allows the character to collect enough resources needed to practice the secondary profession.
Examples of good profession pairing:
** Mining and Blacksmithing, resulting in the character having supply of qulaity armours and weapons.
** Mining and Engineering. Mining provides most of the stuff engineers needed to make their works of art.
** Skinning and Leather Working - resulting in the craetion of highly specialised equipment and more mundane leather armors.
** Herbalism and Alchemy - creation of large and varied options of potions.
The gathering professions compliment the crafting profession by enabling rapid advancement of the crafting profession. The items created by the crafting profession can either be used to buff the character, or to sell for profits.
