How you invest your world of warcraft talents can radically change the way your character works.
Begining at level 10, you earn one (1) talent per level. Each class has three Talent Trees which you can invest your world of warcraft talents into to specialize("spec") your character.
Here is the Brief Overview of the Various Talent Trees:
Warrior
Arms Tree - focuses on using a big 2-handed weapon, creating a very large damage numbers which come slowly.
Fury Tree - focuses on using 2 weapons, dual-wielded. The damage number will not be as huge as that of an Arm Warrior, but the damage numbers will come much more frequent.
Protection Tree - is a tanking tree, allowing the warrior to absorb tremendous amounts of damage.
Druid
Balance - This DPS tree focuses on magical damage just like the capability of a Mage. Invest 31-point into this tree will give the Druid the power of spellcaster.
Feral Combat - This DPS tree focuses onmelee combat, allowing the Druid to emphasize on either tanking (in Bear Form) or melee DPS (in Cat Form).
Restoration - Druid's healing tree. Invest 41-point into this tree will make the Druid a very effective healer.
Mage
Arcane Tree - offers efficiency and survivability. Increased damage, increased critical hits, reduced mana consumption through free spells, instant casting, improvement of existing spells and abilities as well as increased intellect, mana pool and mana regeneration.
Fire Tree - offers the most destructive spells that will mow down the opposition the quickest. With the right soell sequence most mobs will die before even can get within the melww range.
Frost Tree focuses on kiting mobs and survivability. Your spell will slow down your target, allowing you to cast freely. It offers the widest array of barriers and shields. It has the highest damage-permana ratio of all skill tress.
Warlock
Affliction Tree focuses on Damage-over-Time (DoT) spells. It is generally considered an excellent leveling tree because it is very efficient.
Demonology Tree focuses on the various demon-pets summoned by the warlock.
Destruction Tree focuses on direct damage: shadow and fire spells, making the Warlock similar to a Mage in some respects.

Priest
Discipline Tree contains a lot of talents for survivability an is also a useful compliment to specialization in the other Priest Trees.
Holy Tree is the Priest healing tree, it also contain talents that affect Holy damage.
Shadow Tree focuses on Shadow magic.
Hunter
Beast Master Tree - It focuses on the Hunter's pet, it gives bonuses to armor, health and damage. Besides using it in leveling, it is also an accepted raid spec.
Markmanship Tree - It focuses on the Hunter's abilities. It provides new shot skills, quicker cooldowns and higher critical strike chances.
Survival Tree - It focuses on utility, particularly crowd control through traps.
Rogue
Assasination Tree focuses on good burst damage and the ability to creat combo points used for finishing moves.
Combat Tree is Rogue's sustained DPS tree.
Subtlety Tree also known as PVP Tree because of the abilities to function from the cover of stealth.
Paladin
Holy Tree is Paladin's healing tree. Paladin can be very effective and efficient healer.
Protection Tree is Paladin's defensive, tanking tree, allowing the Paladin to absorb substantial amount of damage. The Paladin can also do the "protection area-of-effect (AoE)" method of killing mobs.
Retribution Tree - ability to deal holy damage.
Shaman
Elemental Tree focuses on doing damage by casting spells.
Enhancement Tree is the Shman's melee DPS tree.
Restoration Tree is Shaman's healing tree.
Since you only get 51 total points (at level 70), you have to make careful decisions on how to spend your world of warcraft talents.
